Bird Flu affecting our supplier

We try and use local suppliers as much as possible. for the cafe. So we have some great produce from local farms like Povey Farm north of Sheffield where Moss Valley Fine Meats produce the award winning bacon, sausages and black pudding we use in the cafe and Our Cow Molly who supply us - and much of Sheffield - with their delicious, fresh organic milk from Cliffe House Farm in Dungworth.

We also source the free range eggs we use in the cafe (in all those delicious cakes and breakfasts!) from Amos Kaye & Son from Townhead Farm at Dunford Bridge.

This week they wrote to us to formally warn us of the threat that bird flu poses to their business. We are sharing their letter here here as it is brings to life the very real effects of some of the difficulties that are affecting many farmers in the UK.

I guess the message is, if you have an opportunity to shop in a way which supports local farmers, they will appreciate that more than ever as they face the multiple challenges that Brexit, Covid, the war in Ukraine and the cost of living crisis are causing their businesses.
