Harland Words: Poetry Live

On Thursday 10th February, 7 to 9 pm we’re hosting the second in a new series of bi-monthly series of live poetry evenings in the cafe at Harland Works. Places are available with a pay as you please donation - see the link on our whats on page here. There will be Open Mike opportunities too, so please come along if you’d like t a chance to be involved.

For February’s Poetry Live we have the following line up:

0ur host is Susannah Evans lives in Sheffield. Her pamphlet Confusion Species was a winner in the 2012 Poetry Business Book and Pamphlet Competition and her debut collection Near Future was published by Nine Arches Press in 2018. She was the winner of a Gladstone’s Library residency in October 2019 for Near Future

Angelina D’Roza lives in Sheffield. Her first collection, Envies the Birds, and pamphlet, Correspondences, were published by Longbarrow Press. A new collection is forthcoming from Longbarrow this autumn.

Genevieve Carver is a writer and performer whose poetry has been published in journals including Mslexia, The White Review, The North, The London Magazine, Magma and Poetry News. Her first collection, A Beautiful Way to be Crazy, was published by Verve Poetry Press in 2020. It was based on a gig theatre production in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist live band The Unsung celebrating female experiences in the music industry, which toured nationwide to venues including London’s Roundhouse and Underbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe. She is currently working on new poems exploring themes of connectivity and discord between humans and the natural world.

Warda Yassin is a Sheffield based Somali poet. She is part of the Hive network and The Writing Squad. Warda writes about family and culture, and the spaces between these worlds. She has performed alongside the likes of Buddy Wakefield and Jean Binta Breeze. Her work has been anthologised in Introduction X (Smith|Doorstop), Verse Matters (Valley Press) and Halfway Smile (Hive). Her pamphlet 'Tea With Cardamom' was a winner of the Poetry Business New Poets' Prize in 2018 and she is the current Sheffield Poet Laureate.
