October Repair Cafe update

Everyone turned up at once at the start for our October Repair Cafe! So it was a bit hectic initially - but then settled down.

We were missing any volunteers to do sewing repairs at the start so we had electrical, bikes, and knife sharpening on offer thanks to Steve, Dave, Peter and Simon - and Margaret managed to join us later to do some hand sewing repairs.

As well as a successful overhaul of a bike we had a successful repairs of a couple of toasters, and anglepoise light and some sharpened knives. And Helen was delighted as we managed to help her with a Sony recorder that had a recording of her husband on it.

We had a few people we couldn’t help. Kath’s hoover needed a spare part first and so we pointed her in the direction of somewhere to order the part (if this happens you’re welcome to bring the repair + part back to a future repair cafe to finish the job off). Kai had a mouse (computer) that needed soldering to fix it and we don’t have a solder kit. Julie’s massage gun (not heard of these? Check out Good Housekeeping’s recomendations here) needed a new charger ordering, so again we were able to diagnose the issue and signpost her in the right direction. And Anne’s Dimmer Switch prooved to need a part which wouldn’t be economic to get.

If you have something to repair please do come along to one of our future monthly Repair Cafes.

You could also try on of the other local Repair Cafes - we know of one run in Chesterfield and Tideswell and then there’s also the Reyt Repair Social Enterprise in Sheffield which is open Tuesday to Saturday ini Pitsmoor :)

The repair movement has lots of handy resources - here’s a link to a useful guide to what can be recycling and where (if you’ve got something that sadly cannot be repaired or recycled):
