Join a tour of Harland Works during Heritage Open Days

Sunday 15th September 12 til 5pm

Heritage Open Day is a wonderful national event where, with the help of many volunteers, ‘heritage’ buildings open up their doors for free and let people in to have a nosey round.

You can take your pick from a gloriously eclectic variety of places to visit including prisons, churches, mosques, theatres, libraries … and, in Sheffield, some repurposed former cutlery works! To mark the festival, we are running guided tours around Harland Works on Sunday 15th September between 12 and 5pm.

Come and join us on the day: our tours will run at 12.30, 2.30 and 4.30pm. Each tour can take 10 people and you can book now (details on how to book below) - or turn up to see if we have a place. Our neighbour, Portland Works, will also be open, so you could combine a visit to us with visiting them too.

Our tour will go up steep stairs, and narrow spaces as we show you round some of the surprising corners of the building. We’ll introduce you to some of the 20 or so independent businesses that now make their home in the building, and tell you some of the stories involved in turning a semi-derelict steel works with 28 boarded up windows, extensive fire damage and - it’s rumoured - a ghost - into a busy hub for today’s small businesses.

To celebrate 25 years of Heritage Open Days, this year’s event takes the theme of ‘people power’. This is certainly a good fit for Harland Works where today’s tenants are constantly shaping their spaces in the building to make them their own. Some of this has been captured in a series of portraits taken of tenants in their units by photographer Nick Eagle - and these will be on show during the tour.

To book a place on the tour please contact Sophy on info@harlandworks.co.uk or give her a call on 07967 144230.
